Mr. David Wadley, String Clinician

Sunday, February 26, 2012  1 - 5 pm

After freelance work with Symphony Nova Scotia, the Hamilton Philharmonic and the Toronto Symphony, David Wadley joined the viola section of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in 1984.   In addition to teaching and coaching violin and viola students, he arranges and composes.  Since 2007 he has spent his summers at the Banff Centre as Orchestra Manager.

After twelve years of violin study with David Warner-Smith in Sault Ste. Marie and Lorna Glover in Toronto, David migrated to the viola while attending the University of Toronto.  His viola teachers were Rivka Golani, Mark Childs and Steven Kondaks.  David enjoyed his most recent studies in both viola and violin with the scientific Russian pedagogue Leo Wigdorchik.

As a chamber violist, David has performed for almost thirty years with the Emperor Quartet, with whom he recorded two CDs often heard on the CBC.  He has also been active in playing new music in such groups as the Esprit Orchestra, Soundstreams, and most recently, the Lyin' Mackenzie Kings.

Following a timely suggestion from his colleague Michael Steinberg, David acquired both a violin and a viola constructed by luthier John Newton of Toronto.  He performs on these instruments to this day.
